The Graduate Teacher Programme is a highly competitive route into teaching. The trainee is employed in a school as an unqualified teacher. The school has the lead responsibility for the training, and is monitored and supported by the Kirklees Partnership for Employment-based Teacher Training (ETT) tutors and experienced trainers.

We work with a large number of experienced Partner Schools which gives us a wide range of curriculum and cross phase options. At present our Partner schools are within the Kirklees and Calderdale authorities and we are not looking to place any trainee outside of those areas. Subject to allocations and funding, in exceptional circumstances we may consider alternative placements.

Whilst we do accept applicants onto the programme who do not have a potential host school, we do encourage applicants to seek a relationship with a school to explore the potential of a placement with them. Applicants already working in a school or those who have a potential host school must not assume that acceptance on to the programme is automatic: selection is through interview by both the Partnership and the employing school.

Applicants from schools wishing to self fund must still fulfil all our entry requirements. A self funded place requires the school to pay all of the trainee’s salary and in addition a fee of up to £3,000 to the Partnership for external moderation and administrative costs.

Please read through all the information on this site about the programme, training places and entry requirements. If you have any specific questions, please get in touch using the Contact Us link.
